An invitation to pause and draw out your inner vision during a creative sound journey experience in the intimacy of The Other Space.

BECOME: Sound & Vision workshop with Olivia Howitt and Shumaiya Khan

Whilst bathed in the vibrational frequencies you will be guided into a dream-like state of relaxation, drop into your being and learn how to intuitively turn the language of your mind, body and soul into artwork.

What to expect:

  • Introduction and demonstration – a guide to how you might make your first mark on the paper using charcoal and pastel.
  • Guided breathwork and embodiment meditation to bring you into the practice.
  • 7 sounds, 7 marks – based on the chakra system, starting with the root and finishing at the crown and activating sounds that correspond with each chakra. Chakra sounds begin, feel into the sound, pause and draw out sound on paper and continue.
  • Closing session laying down with a grounding sound mediation.
  • Participants take away their artwork in a ribbon tied scroll.

About the hosts

Olivia Howitt is a Sound Therapist, Reiki Master, Yoga Teacher and founder of Energy Shaped, a creative healing space. Motivated by experiences that shaped her own wellness journey, her mission is to share the methods that helped unearth the true nature of her being and grow towards change. She works intuitively combining guided conscious breathwork meditation, therapeutic sound and hands-on energy healing, to help you find peace and feel restored. She believes with thoughtful guidance we can gain a deeper understanding of ourselves and renew our inner life, outer life and life together.

Shumaiya Khan specialises in contemporary abstract expressionism. Her practice explores juxtapositions around emotive behaviours in the sphere of; what it means to be feminine, occurrence of coercion & control, love both romantic & platonic, and the fragility & restless motions of life. The commentary which takes place upon viewing should provoke deeper feelings on our own temporary nature. Understanding one’s self and the resilience we harbour. Khan runs her own studio ’701’, while working with galleries across London and Europe.

Olivia is a Reiki Master Practitioner, Sound Therapist, Yoga Teacher and founder of Energy Shaped – a natural healing space. Motivated by experiences that shaped her own wellness journey, her mission is to share the methods that helped unearth the true nature of her being and grow towards change. She works intuitively combining guided mediation, breathwork, hand based energy healing and therapeutic sound, to help you find peace and feel restored.

She has helped people experience deep states of relaxation and let go of stress related symptoms linked with grief, relationships, addiction, trauma, work burnout and creative block, reach life goal achievements, and provide a nurturing space for mother and baby connection during prenatal sessions.

Olivia is a member of the UK Reiki Federation and is trained in both lineages of the Usui system of reiki: The Usui Natural Healing System (Western lineage) and The Usui Spiritual Energy System (Japanese lineage) – she received her teachings from Reiki Master Teacher Amanda White, founder of the Usui Reiki Academy Surrey, and has a clean lineage tracing back to reiki founder Mikao Usui. Olivia is a trained Sound Therapist, completing her studies with sound healing pioneers Michele Averard and Nestor Kornblum founders of Harmonic Sounds in Spain. Also, completing a 200hr YTT Vinyasa Flow under Vidya Heisel at the world renowned Frog Lotus International Yoga Academy at the Suryalila Retreat Centre, Spain.  

Conscious Breathwork Meditation: At the start of the session guided breathwork and mindful meditation encourages awareness so that a mentally clear and emotionally peaceful state can be achieved throughout the session.

Reiki: Originating in Japan over a hundred years ago, reiki is a non-evasive gentle form of healing using hand techniques on or off the body to connect to a person’s energy flow. Shifts in energy restore mind body connection and reiki treatments can make you feel lighter and grounded promoting mental wellbeing. Reiki is a deeply nourishing experience and can also be performed remotely.

Sound: Therapeutic sound balances the mental, emotional and physical body to a natural rhythm. Using a selection of sound instruments the vibrational frequencies encourage the brainwaves to slow down and calm the nervous system, reducing the heart and respiratory rate to induce a deep state of relaxation. When the brain and body synchronise, a healthy flow of energy is restored, stress melts away, the immune system is empowered and mental clarity improves, allowing a deeper sense of mind body connection, creating a healthy way to be and live.
